Baldur's Gate 3: How To Find Cazador's Palace
Cazador the vampire is a big figure in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3. Here's how to learn the location of his lair.
If you're anything like us, you might have even found the Silver Key and gone an entire playthrough without knowing what it goes to. We've gone through the lengths to figure that mystery out for you, and the truth reveals an entirely super-secret second dungeon lying further beneath Cazador Szarr's first basem*nt dungeon.
Where To Find Cazador's Attic
You can reach the attic of Szarr Palace after you've opened the sinister door to the ballroom. If you haven't yet opened it, you can refer to our official guide on how to open the door.
Once the werewolves are defeated, you can access a storage room to the right of the throne.
Before you progress on this journey, we recommend that you have a) a spellcaster capable of casting Mage Hand and b) one highly dexterous rogue or bard with several Trap Disarming Kits.
You'll notice there's a button here that you can press that closes this door, but we'll come back to it later. Instead, go up the ladder.
In this new area, you'll spy a button on the wall on your left (southwest). Press it, and an entry into the attic will reveal itself to you.
How To Find The Silver Key
Past the now-opened attic door, look down the long, far wall of the room on the left (south) side. There will be another button you can press that opens the way to the next room.
In this large area, you'll find numerous crates and boxes prime for looting, and there's a casket with a letter that will explain the purposes of this attic space.
However, to find the key, you'll need to locate the ladder in the center of this newly opened space. Climb it, and you'll find a bed and a wooden chest beside it.
Loot the chest, and you'll find a Silver Key inside. Unfortunately, this key doesn't come with an explanation of where to use it.
Where To Use The Silver Key
Return to the storage room linked to the ballroom down below, leaving the attic entirely. However, before you leave the storage room, you'll want a magical party member to cast Mage Hand.
After casting Mage Hand, leave the hand in the storage room and have the rest of your party exit into the ballroom.
Use the Mage Hand to press the button in the storage room. Doing so will close the storage room door but open a new door on the opposite side of the ballroom.
You may now dismiss the Mage Hand summon and proceed into the newly discovered secret meeting room.
Inside this room, you'll find a corpse and a chest. The chest is unlocked and contains a key to one of the vaults in the Counting House.
While you think this may be the final prize, there is yet more to discover and a key that has yet to be used.
Move the chest aside to reveal a trap door cleverly hidden beneath it. You may use your Silver Key to unlock it and gain access to Cazador's secret second dungeon.
How To Complete Cazador's Secret Second Dungeon
Unlike the primary dungeon above, this dungeon is thankfully a lot simpler - but can be extremely punishing (as well as deadly) for the unassuming adventurer.
As you reach the bottom of the ladder, you'll find a locked door ahead and two pressure plates on the ground. Drag two metal crates nearby onto each of the pressure plates to unlock and open the door.
The following room is filled with several vents that will release gas and gargoyle heads to ignite that gas into a series of repeated explosions. Disarming these traps requires a hefty 25DC check, so be careful if you aim to disarm them before they become a threat.
Standing on all four pressure plates, bid the door to open, but you must use the nearby metal crates to keep the door open for your party to advance.
The next room is similar to the previous, with two pressure plates on either side of a chest on the far side of the room. You can:
- Send only your best lockpicker forward, leaving the rest of your party at the door. Lockpick the chest open after disarming the trap.
- Send three characters ahead - two to stand on the plates and one to loot the chest.
Inside is a huge stash of goodies, including Black Diamonds, a hefty sum of gold, and rare potions.
With all your goods in hand, you can now carefully return to the start of this dungeon area and the ballroom to leave.
This area was intended to be longer and larger than it is. In previous versions of the game (prior to Patch 3), there was a lever puzzle that was meant to be used but was unable to be solved due to a bug in the puzzle's design. After recent patches, the levers in the room were entirely removed.
For now, this dungeon area abruptly ends with the chest, though later patches may end up fixing earlier version bugs to use its intended cut content.
