The Olympics are underway, EURO 2024 is over and already falling into oblivion. This is a good time to look back on the results of my last two HTML5 soccer games published on Poki.com. Free Kick Screamers (https://lnkd.in/dikbhhhp) and Penalty Shooters X (https://lnkd.in/decq8baB) were released at a good time, just before (Free Kick Screamers) and during the European Championship (Penalty Shooters X). Free Kick Screamers had a soft launch on May 24th, a week later it launched globally. To date, the game has been played 9.3M times, with an average score of 85.3% positive player votes. I haven't analyzed it in detail, but comparing it to a large number of other soccer games on Poki.com, it's clear that this is one of the few top-rated games in this category on this portal. Penalty Shooters X launched a bit later, on June 21st globally. To date, the game has been played 4.7M times, with an average score of 84.2% positive player votes. With a total of 14M plays in just two months, I have to be satisfied. Both games have excellent ratings and are generally well received by players. However, in terms of length of average play session, as well as revenue (I'm talking about RPM), Free Kick Screamers performs better. Here are the main conclusions: - The game should be as light as possible in terms of export size to load. - The action should start as soon as possible. Each step through the menus knocks down the number of players who actually start the action. - Onboarding should be smooth, the tutorial should be interactive with a minimum of text. - Reward ads are key for high RPM. They should be used strategically. - Balancing difficulty is critical. I won't exaggerate if I say that up to 20% of the entire game should be very easy to master. In all these factors, Free Kick Screamers works slightly better than Penalty Shooters X. The above conclusions are not a secret, they are well known in game development, but I had the opportunity to verify their accuracy on the example of two games of the same category, which were launched in one place at approximately the same time. Very useful experience.
