The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is holding a virtual meeting on August 8 to discuss a $112 million project to demolish and replace the Lafayette Street bascule bridge. The project, partly funded by a $73 million grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will build a new bridge with a safe and reliable crossing and an 8-foot-wide shared-use path.#Transportation #Engineering #Infrastructure #MDOT

America's bridge infrastructure—long seen as dysfunctional —has been steadily improving for the past 20 years,Axios' Will Chase writes. Why it matters:The share of bridges rated poor by the federal government fell from 15% in 2000 to 6.8% in 2023.🧮By the numbers:Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan collectively house 40% of neglected bridges. One factoris the bridges' age. Pennsylvania, which tops the list of neglected bridges, has 2,000 bridges built 100+ years ago.Texas, with a single neglected bridge, has just 311 century-old bridges.

The story of the Blatnik Bridge connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin is the story of American infrastructure. The bridge is outdated and too corroded to allow safe passage of oversize or heavy trucks. With funding from the bipartisan #infrastructure law, the bridge will be replaced leading to tangible benefits for people, including fewer accidents, faster commutes, faster emergency response time, and better flow of goods, as well as construction jobs for the project. Infrastructure is essential for helping people live better lives and these projects only underscore the importance of the historic investments from IIJA, Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS Act.https://lnkd.in/ehby-Yjr

With high levels of federal infrastructure investment buoying projects around the U.S. … it’s a “very exciting time to be a civil engineer.” The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act offers much-needed funding to help address the country’s vast repair backlog...but the work is just beginning."The biggest challenges we’re seeing are the lack of skilled workers entering the civil engineering profession and insufficient workers available for major projects that are ready to be undertaken now. Not only do we have workforce shortages for existing projects, but we’re expecting a large percentage of our experienced engineers to retire within the next decade — a “Silver Tsunami” if you will —and don’t have enough people to fill those roles.""If you are in need of high-level individuals in Construction, Estimation, Engineering or Management, message me directly or reach out tojames.oleary@imperium-global.com#heavycivil #heavycivilconstruction #heavyconstruction #usajobs #infrastructure #infrastructurejobs https://lnkd.in/ePTgrta9

We dissect the final buy-American guidance out from the White House: When Congress passed the so-called Bipartisan Infrastructure law two years ago, it also strengthened buy-American requirements for construction projects. Now the final guidance is out from the White House on the BABA part of the law, Build American, Buy American. #FedearlNewsRadio #News
