Brandon Bonsey is entering his seventh campaign as head men’s cross country coach and previously served as an assistant coach for the track & field / cross country program. Bonsey returned to his alma mater at the beginning of the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach and has worked primarily with the middle distance and distance runners from the men’s team.

AT GEORGETOWN

  • Bonsey helped lead the Hoyasin 2021-2022 to a first place finish in the women's Cross Country BIGEASTChampionships and a second place finish for the men
  • Helped lead the men's outdoor team to a second place finish and the women's team to athird place finish in the BIG EAST outdoor championships.
  • Coached the USATF U20 3,000-meter champion who went on to compete at the World Athletics U20 Championships
  • Helpedsecure fivefirst-place finishes at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
  • UnderBonsey, fourHoyas took first-place at the 2020 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
  • In 2019-20, four of his track and field athletes were awarded USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
  • During his tenure on the Hilltop, Bonsey has coached his student-athletes to 49 All-America honors in more than 10 different events.
  • Most recently in 2018-19, the Hoyas picked up five All-America honors following the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships with the men’s distance medley relay (DMR) finishing third as well as a sixth-place showing for the Blue & Gray in the 800-meter run.
  • During the 2017-18 season, Bonsey’s athletes picked up eight All-America accolades with five coming from the indoor season and an additional three during the outdoor campaign.
  • In the events that he coaches, the Hoyas have tallied 34 total BIG EAST event titles (29 individual, 5 relay) and the Hoya men have won four-consecutive team titles at the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships.
  • He was part of the 2016-17 staff who coached the track & field / cross country teams to a No. 6 ranking in the USTFCCCA Men’s Program of the Year standings.
  • Under his tutelage, GU managed back-to-back top-10 individual performances at the NCAA cross country championship in 2015 (5th) and 2016 (10th). It was the first time since the 1964 and 1965 seasons the Hoyas had achieved the feat. Prior to 2015, the Hoyas had not tallied a top-five performance since 2000.
  • He has coached an NCAA runner-up in the steeplechase at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the same year the Blue & Gray recorded the second- and fifth-place finishers and the Hoyas were the only team with a pair of runners to score points in the event.
  • The 2017 track & field season was one for the record books as one of Bonsey’s athletes finished third at both the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor Championships, while also setting a school record in the indoor 800-meter run, indoor 800-meter carry and the outdoor 800-meter run.

PRIOR TO GEORGETOWN

  • Bonsey arrived on the Hilltop following a two-year stint with the Syracuse track & field / cross country program.
  • With the Orange, Bonsey worked primarily with the middle distance and distance runners for both the men's and women's teams, while also assisting with recruiting and coordinating team travel.
  • He helped guide the Syracuse men's cross country team to a 2010 BIG EAST team championship and the SU men finished the 2010 cross country season with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, while the women posted top-20 finishes in both 2010 (10th) and 2011 (17th). Both cross country teams won the Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships in 2010 and 2011.
  • During his time with the Orange, Syracuse had four student-athletes earn All-America honors. Additionally, SU had three individual BIG EAST champions in outdoor track & field. Bonsey's tutelage helped an Orange athlete to the 2012 USA Track & Field (USATF) Junior Cross Country title.
  • Prior to working with the Orange, Bonsey spent one year as an assistant with the Hoyas. In addition to assisting with the middle distance and distance runners, he was responsible for coordinating the recruiting process, daily practices and travel arrangements for the Hoyas.
  • During his prior stint at Georgetown, Bonsey helped guide several Hoya All-Americans to earn national collegiate accolades across all three seasons as well as at the USA Track & Field Championships.

GEORGETOWN CAREER, ACADEMIC & PERSONAL

  • Bonsey captained the cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams during his senior year.
  • During Bonsey's junior year as a student-athlete in 2007, he finished fifth in the 1,000-meter run at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship. He ran a PR 4:04.21 in the mile that same season at the indoor Terrier Classic and earlier that year placed 36th at the 2006 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship.
  • During his sophomore season, he earned All-BIG EAST honors as a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that placed third at the indoor championships.
  • In 2005, his first year at Georgetown, Bonsey competed at the USATF Jr. National Championships in the 1,500-meter event.
  • He was selected to participate in the Veteran Leaders Program, a Georgetown leadership program designed for team captains to develop the skills and knowledge critical to be an effective and vocal leader.
  • The Falmouth, Maine native competed in cross country and indoor and outdoor track for Georgetown from 2004-09.
  • Bonsey graduated from Georgetown in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in government.
